Black Monday: How soldiers killed 81 members – IPOB........
revealed that 81 of their members who were part of a peaceful
procession in commemoration of the Biafran struggle were murdered in
cold blood by the Nigerian military.A statement signed by the
spokesman of the group, Emma Powerful, said that the slain members were
neither armed nor violent but were part of a peaceful procession in
remembrance of their slain kinsmen.
The statement declared that IPOB will bury their dead and urged the international community to keep an eye on the ugly developments unfolding in Nigeria.
It read in part, “As we prepare for the funeral of our 81 dead colleagues slaughtered on Black Monday, we appeal to the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations, Africa Union and ECOWAS to monitor the funeral procession, as we are almost certain that the blood thirsty military will again shoot to kill, only to rush to the media and lie as usual that they were attacked. We are confident more than ever, that our freedom is nearer than ever.”
While noting that there has been unprecedented increase in their membership in spite of the growing persecution and violent intimidation from the Nigerian government, IPOB pledges to remain non-violent in spite of the provocation.
“As the oppressor continues to slaughter us in cold blood, in the misguided belief that killing us will frighten us into falling in love with an already failed state, thereby abandoning our struggle for freedom, we assure them that the principal actors of this genocide will not escape justice in due course,” the statement read.
The group expressed their gratitude for the massive outpouring of emotions and solidarity from across the country, especially from people outside the old Eastern Nigeria, “who through visits, gifts and solidarity messages identified with our peaceful struggle for freedom from slavery and the sad and bloody genocide of Black Monday, May 30th 2016.
“We thank religious, traditional, traders and student groups for their overwhelming support and assistance as we attend to over 240 of our members in various hospitals, victims of the Black Monday genocide.
“And of course, we appreciate the groups from the old Eastern Region who met in Enugu, Friday, and agreed to mobilise fully in support of our prayer for a referendum. We pray that as they meet in Umuahia in three weeks to adopt a final decision, that God will guide them to choose freedom over slavery,” the statement added.
In
a related development, a rights advocacy group, Kingdom Human Rights
Foundation, has called for the immediate removal of the General Officer
Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigeria Army, Enugu, Brigadier-General
Ibrahim Attahiru, for allegedly invading the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching
Hospital, Nnewi.
A statement by the foundation decried the reported impunity of the soldiers who stormed the hospital and dragged away injured members of IPOB who were being treated for various degrees of gunshot wounds inflicted on them by the Nigerian army.
The document signed by its Director of the Foundation, Okere Kingdom Nnamdi, read in part, “Kingdom Human Rights Foundation is, therefore, disgusted by the report that the Nigerian military invaded the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, caused pandemonium by shooting sporadically into the air, and forcefully took 20 victims away to an unknown destination, which resulted in the death of some of the victims.”
Okere argued that the act is a deliberate denial of medical care to an injured patience, “which is not only wicked, but also a crime against humanity, punishable by international laws in accordance with the Statute of Rome. We have, therefore, petitioned the International Criminal Court on this barbaric and cruel demonstration of arrogant impunity by the Nigerian military.
While the group has concluded arrangement to seek redress in court, Okere urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately relieve Brigadier-General Ibrahim Attahiru, General Officer Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army Enugu, of his position as he has brazenly demonstrated “deep-seated hatred for the Igbos of South East Nigeria and must be held accountable for this grave constitutional breach and reckless impunity.“
IPOB has said that they “are confident more than ever, that our freedom is nearer than ever. We pledge to remain non-violent as we welcome new converts with out-stretched arms,” a statement signed by the spokesman of the group, Emma Powerful said.
He added: “As the oppressor continues to slaughter us in cold blood, in the misguided belief that killing us will frighten us into falling in love with an already failed state, thereby abandoning our struggle for freedom, we assure them, that the principal actors of this genocide will not escape justice in due course.”
Vanguard gathered that late Bridget Sunshine hailed from Orodo, Mbatoli local government area of Imo State and the wife of a pastor in Deeper Life Church, Kano.
In a statement by Comrade Uchenna Madu who described the killing of the woman as gruesome and barbaric insisted that MASSOB would no longer tolerate the killing of Igbo anywhere in Nigeria.
The statement read in part: “The unprovoked and insensitive killing of Igbo woman THursday in Kano state is unacceptable to MASSOB. It can never be washed away or treated insensitively as usual.
“The open barbaric gruesome murder of an Igbo mother in Arewaland is a conscious provocation of conscience of Ndigbo.
“Why must the blood of Biafrans continue to be split on Arewaland soil in the name of Islamic Religious fundamentalist and extremists?
“Why
do that Hausa Fulani always derive joy in splitting the blood of Ndigbo
residing in the Northern Nigeria? Why is it that the Emirs, Sultan,
political, Religious and opinion leaders of Arewaland always keep silent
and shows no concern on the plight of Ndigbo residing in Northern
Nigeria?
“The consciousness of Biafra, present and future existence of our people are daily inspired by Hausa Fulani agenda being consciously executed by Buhari administrative policies.
“Biafrans are not happy and can no longer watch heartless killing of our people. MASSOB warns Igbo traditional, Religious, political and opinion leaders to stop sympathizing with the Hausa Fulani people again, if it were the Hausa Fulani people that were killed in Igbo land, some Igbo cowardice governors will openly and shamefully sympathize with them.
“MASSOB also warns that Deeper Life Church must compensate the pastor husband of the slain Igbo woman because they posted the family to Kano state”.

ENUGU—Over eight pro- Biafra groups rose from a meeting in Accra, Ghana,
weekend, demanding for immediate expulsion of Nigeria’s membership from
the Common Wealth of Nations following what it described as serial
extra judicial killings of pro-Biafra activists during last Monday’s
Biafra Anniversary in the south-east and parts of south-south
geopolitical zones.
This was even as the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign
State of Biafra, MASSOB, weekend, threw its weight behind the Niger
Delta Avengers, NDA, whose unrelenting onslaught on crude oil pipelines
and installations in the Niger Delta region has plunged the NNPC
production capacity to below 800,000BPD.
A communique signed and made available at the end of the conference by
MASSOB and Biafra Liberation Council, BLC, leaders,Uchenna Madu and
Austin-Mary Ndukwu respectively on behalf of eight other pro-Biafra
groups frowned at the delay by Common Wealth of Nations to expel
Nigeria, noting that the body rose to the occasion in 1995 by suspending
Nigeria due to her deplorable human rights records including the
execution by hanging of Ogoni nine activists including Africa’s
Playwright, Ken Saro-Wiwa and the continuous detention and murder of MKO
Abiola.
